The delivery of 422 home energy advice plans has resulted in 1,059 actions to reduce energy saving homes an average of $330 per year

1,359 personalised journey plans have lead to 1,034 less car trips a day and a total reduction of 51,200km travelled on the roads each year

Our combined programmes have helped reduce CO2 by 469 tonnes per year equivalent to 72 hectares (or rugby fields) of native forest

Personalised Journey Planning


So far in 2019, our fantastic engagement team has contacted over 1,100 households  – delivering personalised journey plans from Glen Innes to Howick. on trip options in Royal Oak – our seventh Personalised Journey Planning project.

Home Energy Efficiency


Regular programmes funded by the Whau, Waitemat?, Puket?papa and Maugakiekie-Tam?ki Local Boards. These provide tailored advice to residents increasing efficiency and reducing CO2 – resulting in annual savings of around $300-400 per household per year.

Sustainable neighbourhood design


Working with Beacon Pathway in Auckland and Christchurch delivering  guidance for developers of Medium Density housing to encourage integrated developments that maximise environmental and community benefits.

Our assessments are funded by the Waitemat?. These measure energy and CO2 in apartments and provide recommendations for reduction.

Evaluating the Healthy Rentals Programme


Our evaluation of Auckland Council’s Healthy Rentals programme has lead to recommendations to encourage landlords to provide insulation and improve housing quality for their tenants. We have also developed personalised advice for residents that has been used in wider regional programmes.

Off the grid


A whole-island survey helped determine the extent of off-grid technologies on Waiheke and develop initiatives to support increased independence and community resilience.

Low Carbon Auckland


We calculated an ‘average’ Aucklanders CO2 emissions for the City’s Low Carbon Action Plan, and  added a section on ‘bright sparks’, which showed how and why people become motivated to reduce their footprint.

Our team

Bill Smith
Director

Bill has worked in sustainable development since 1997 in the UK, Southern Africa, Australia and NZ. He has designed and delivered a wide range of innovative programmes to encourage behaviour change, increase resilience and reduce CO2.

Verney Ryan
Senior associate

Verney specialises in energy efficiency and renewables in the built environment. He has experience with governments, industry and NGOs including 10 years in the UK with the International Energy Agency & the Carbon Trust.

Karen Creagh
Senior associate

Karen has extensive experience in community interaction and evaluation and supports a number of our behaviour change programmes . She is also part of the team that developed and delivers the Sustainable Whau Challenge. 

Stuart Sontier
Web development

Stuart specialises in complex data base systems, calculators, mapping and online administration. These drive our behaviour change tools providing efficient processes that deliver concise, relevant, personalised information.

Ben Mansfield
TEAM LEADER

Ben coordinates our engagement teams across a range of home energy and journey planning projects. When not on the doorstep, he provides research for on-going project development as well as administrative support to keeping our programmes running smoothly.
